Colby seeks an innovative and strategic thinker with a broad vision for the role of diversity in achieving institutional excellence. Reporting to the Dean of the College (DOC) and serving on the DOC division leadership team, the Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) provides vision, leadership, oversight and guidance for campus-wide initiatives that support Colby’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategic plan. The Dean of DEI works to advance a campus culture of inclusion and a learning and working environment where all have the opportunity to succeed. The Dean of DEI plays a central role in shaping and leading the Dean of the College Office’s strategic initiatives by partnering with colleagues both in the division and across the College to support and enrich student learning and living experiences. The Dean of DEI also collaborates with the Office of the Provost to develop strategies and policies that integrate the curricular and co-curricular dimensions of our educational mission, with particular focus on supporting initiatives and programs that enhance the academic success of Colby’s increasingly diverse student body.
As the leader of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Dean of DEI supervises and works closely with the Director of the Pugh Center, the Director of Gender Diversity Programs, and the Director of International Programs, each of whom directs programs that foster and support an inclusive and equitable campus culture. The Dean of DEI will also partner with other stakeholders across the campus, such as the Dean of Religious and Spiritual Life, the Associate Director for Talent Development in Human Resources, and the Athletics DEI Committee to coordinate the development and implementation of educational programs and trainings around intercultural competencies. The Dean of DEI will assess and redesign policies and reform practices designed to ensure a more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming community.
We seek an individual with proven expertise and at least six years of experience leading an organization in developing and achieving strategic DEI goals; experience and/or background in higher education is a valued asset. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to lead and manage major institutional change initiatives; understands the culture of a liberal arts college campus; and has the ability cultivate and sustain trust and credibility with colleagues.
